Cate Blanchett Preggers

No word if Galadriel foresaw this one in her magic bird bath, but Lord of the Rings star Cate Blanchett has revealed she's in the family way.

Blanchett's publicist confirmed Thursday that the Australian-born actress was pregnant with her second child by film editor-screenwriter hubby Andrew Upton.

The baby is not expected to make its debut until spring 2004. No further details were released.

One of the hardest-working women in showbiz, Blanchett found time to produce her first little tyke two years ago between the release of Bandits, The Fellowship of the Rings and The Shipping News. Dashiell John was born in December 2001, allegedly named after the author of classic crime novel The Maltese Falcon, Dashiell Hammett.

Morning sickness and nursery decorating aside, the next few months will be extra busy for the Oscar-nominated star of Elizabeth. Blanchett's currently working the international film circuit promoting the release of Veronica Guerin about a murdered Irish journalist. The critically acclaimed film made its North American debut at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this month and has its theatrical premiere October 17.

A month later, Blanchett appears opposite Tommy Lee Jones in the period Western The Missing, about a deadbeat dad (Jones) who returns home to his family to try and rekindle his relationship with his grown daughter (Blanchett).

Meanwhile, the much-hyped delivery fans are waiting for: The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King is slated for release December 17.

On top of all this, Blanchett is still shooting on Martin Scorsese's Howard Hughes biopic The Aviator as one of the mogul's many gal-pals, Katherine Hepburn. The movie is slated for a December 2004 release. Next, she was reportedly scheduled to begin production on Wes Anderson's The Life Aquatic opposite Bill Murray, Owen Wilson and Anjelica Huston. No word if Blanchett will honor her commitment to Anderson with a baby on the way.

The actress was allegedly forced to bow out of Mike Nichols' Closer, opposite Jude Law, due to her impending delivery.
