Casting Scoop: SNL and 30 Rock Star Comes to ABC's Best New Comedy, Suburgatory

SUBURGATORY, JEREMY SISTO, JANE LEVY, CHERYL HINES, CARLY CHAIKIN ABC/KAREN NEAL

Jeremy Sisto. As a dad. In suburbia. Hangin' at the mall with Cheryl Hines. Sounds like a weirdly terrible concept for a TV show, right?

And yet, ABC's Suburgatory is perhaps the best surprise of all the new TV comedies coming out this fall. It's off-beat and endearing. And it just got even more funny.

We just got word that a certain Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock star has been cast...

Chris Parnell, Miss/Guided ABC/Danny Feld

Chris Parnell, aka 30 Rock's Dr. Spaceman is coming to Suburgatory in a recurring role opposite another SNL alum: Ana Gasteyer. The couple will live next door to Sisto and his on-screen daughter, Jane Levy.

Parnell plays Fred Shay, a suburbanite who learned everything he knows about marriage from the "Yes, Dear" Wikipedia page.  Agreeing with his wife, Sheila (Gasteyer), makes things run smoothly and Fred has become at expert at putting his own feelings aside to do so.

"A lot of the characters are really wahoo," up-and-coming leading lady Jane Levy tells us of Suburgatory. "But underneath it, there is heart. There are also serious and great actors, so it brings depth to the craziness."

Suburgatory premieres Sept. 28 on ABC, and we plan on hitting the set next week to bring you more scoop.
