Carol Brady Gets Morning Show Gig
The show, Later Today, has signed on former Wesson cooking oil pitchwoman and Brady Bunch matriarch Florence Henderson as its cohost, that is.
Peacock sources say the 65-year-old Henderson--most famous for playing Carol Brady in the early-'70s camp-classic television sitcom--will "cohost" the program alongside Asha Blake, a former news anchor at the network's Los Angeles affiliate.
NBC has yet to make an official announcement, although it did confirm that NBC News' Jodi Applegate (now host of Weekend Today) will occupy the position of Later Today "host." (It's not exactly clear yet what the distinction between host and cohost is here.)
Later Today is supposedly due to premiere September 7 and will focus on the lighter subject matter that's featured in the last hour of the established morning show that proceeds it, the a.m.-dominating Today show.
As for Henderson--who's also starred in a number of Broadway musicals, as well as 1995's cinematic spin on the Brady brood, The Brady Bunch Movie--she has some morning show experience.
From 1959-60, she was a "Today Girl" on the original Today (hosted by Dave Garroway in those days), contributing interviews and features to the show.
Meanwhile, ex-Murphy Brown Candice Bergen will be handling the hosting chores on a new late-night cable talker of her own.
Bergen, a onetime photojournalist, will host a one-hour chat session called Exhale on the new, estrogen-heavy Oxygen channel (due on your cable box next year) Mondays-Thursdays beginning February 2, the network says. (Oxygen...Exhale..get it?)
