Car Trouble for Ex-"Baywatch" Stud
The ex-Baywatch lifeguard is due to be arraigned Friday morning in Los Angeles on two charges stemming from a July arrest for alleged drunken driving, the L.A. County District Attorney's Office said.
Prosecutors on Tuesday formally charged the actor/model turned memoirist with one felony count of causing injury while driving under the influence, and one misdemeanor count of getting behind the wheel with a blood-alcohol level in excess of the California legal limit, D.A. spokeswoman Jane Robison said.
Bergin's talent agency declined comment Wednesday. There was no publicist to contact--the star is said to be orbiting sans a flack.
Legal troubles for the onetime Calvin Klein poser date back to July 16, the fifth anniversary of the death of Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, his onetime love and the subject of his recent tell-all tome.
Police said Bergin, 35, drove his 2001 GMC Yukon into a pack of inline skaters while making a left turn in West Hollywood, California.
One of the skaters, a 39-year-old woman, suffered leg injuries, authorities said.
Bergin was arrested at the scene and spent the night in a West Hollywood jail. He was sprung on $50,000 bail, and remains free.
Before becoming a police-blotter entry, Bergin made headlines earlier this year with the release of his book, The Other Man: A Love Story.
In it, Bergin wrote of his on-again, off-again relationship with Bessette Kennedy, who was killed July 16, 1999, in a plane crash with her Camelot-graced husband, John F. Kennedy Jr., and her sister, Lauren.
Bergin surfed the TV waves as J.D. on Baywatch from 1997-2001. Outside of the book tour for The Other Man, he was last seen popping up in prime time on the NBC reality series Average Joe.
