Cannes Report: Happiest Juror Ever
I’ll take a break from heading up the Jennifer Aniston fan club (Cannes Report: Stars Heat Up France, We're Cool on Jolie) to talk about some other fabulous Cannes events. Wink, wink to you devout Angelina Jolie fans. Man, I have to hand it to A.J.: She inspired some deep, impressive loyalty in the Comments section. And to clarify, let me just say that A Mighty Heart has amazing buzz. I bet it’s fantastic. Obviously, the woman who can bring it in movies as different as Girl, Interrupted and Mr. and Mrs. Smith has unquestionably great range. The real-life story is beautiful; the movie is bound to be beautiful, as well. So, I got a little obsessed with the cosmetics—it happens.

Now then, let’s move on to another power player at Cannes, Sarah Polley. She recently directed her first feature, the elegant and poignant Away from Her. Julie Christie’s performance in the movie is...well, there are no words. And apparently, the Cannes gods noticed. Sarah is a juror in the festival. And she is as excited as a schoolgirl. Not exaggerating. She told me she would be the girl in the corner at parties, awkward and shy. She’s just so excited to be going, to see the movies. What a refreshing approach to the festival: a young, talented actress who's truly in it for the art.
Psst, Lindsay Lohan, take note!
Anyhow, when Sarah was a kid she didn’t fantasize about a big wedding or a big Oscar speech or an awesome prom gown or a date with Joey McIntyre. She told me that her biggest fantasy was going to Cannes. You go, girl. Wait, you’re already there.
