C-Murder's Second Chance
C-Murder is getting a second chance to prove his claim that he's no killer.
The rapper was convicted last year of second-degree murder for shooting a teenager to death outside a Louisiana nightclub.
He was sentenced to a mandatory life sentence in prison.
However, on Tuesday, a judge ruled that C-Murder, whose real name is Corey Miller, deserves a new trial.
State District Judge Martha Sassone's ruling was based on her finding that prosecutors in the original trial withheld key information about witnesses they called to implicate him, defense lawyer Ron Rakosky said.
Rakosky argued in court documents that prosecutors failed to reveal their key witnesses' criminal records to the defense and that the witnesses were given special considerations in exchange for their testimony.
Prosecutors have said they will appeal the decision.
C-Murder comes from a family of rap royalty, including older brother, Master P, and nephew Lil' Romeo. A third brother is rapper Silkk the Shocker.
The three Miller brothers made their debut in the rap trio Tru in the mid-90s.
C-Murder went on to record four solo albums for Master P's No Limits Records, beginning with 1998's Life or Death.
By the time his most recent album, Trapped in Crime hit the shelves in 2002, he was already behind bars.
