Busta Faces the Music

Busta Rhymes wasn't exactly rapped when it came to a sentence for his assault charge. It was more of a slap on the wrist.

The chart-topping hip-hopster received six months' probation and was ordered to pay $300 in court costs after pleading no contest Tuesday to assault and battery of an overzealous fan during a December 2002 concert.

The rapper, real name Tevor Smith Jr., will have his slate wiped clean if he stays out of trouble during the probationary period.

He was also ordered to stay away from the complainant, Celine Giguere, who faces an assault charge herself. She's scheduled to appear in court today.

The mutual beef stems from an impromptu Rhymes concert performed two years ago at a Massachusetts saloon, when Giguere allegedly reached out and groped him.

According to the police report, Giguere claimed the "Gimme Some More" singer went ballistic and slammed her head into a table saying, "If you ever touch me again, I will f--king kill you."

Not so, said the rapper in a statement he read to the court. "On Dec. 7, 2002, while getting off the stage at Jake?s Flint Station...Miss Giguere touched my face with her hand without my consent," he said.

"I walked away, but she attempted to touch me again. I felt it necessary at this point to prevent it from happening a second time. I grabbed her hand and told her I didn?t want that to happen again," Rhymes concluded.

Outside the courtroom, Rhymes' attorneys said their client was the victim of a shakedown. "That?s what this is all about," Robert Kalina said. "There are people who prey on entertainers like Busta."

The legal eagle said Rhymes would not contemplate a civil settlement with Giguere. "There will be no money. He will not settle."
