Burns Weds Beauty

She really is the one!

On-again off-again lovebirds Ed Burns and Christy Turlington finally made it to the altar this weekend.

Originally intending to wed in 2001, the winsome twosome were married in San Francisco Saturday in front of family and friends, including Sting and Vin Diesel, with Bono reportedly filling in for the model's late father, who died of lung cancer two years ago.

Publicists for Burns and Turlington were unavailable for comment Sunday.

The Catholic ceremony took place at the Saints Peter and Paul's Church in North Beach, according to a report in the San Francisco Chronicle, followed by a reception at the Asian Art Museum. The bride wore Galliano and, per tradition, no one noticed what the groom was wearing.

The wedding caps years of "will they or won't they" speculation. The camera-ready couple, who met three years ago at a Hamptons charity event, first announced their engagement within six months of dating.

Burns, 35, and Turlington, 34, were supposed to tie the knot in Europe in October 2001, but they postponed the nuptials in the wake of September 11. Tabloid talk says he wanted to hold off on the celebration while she favored going ahead with their plans. The disagreement allegedly tore them apart.

At the time, the breakup was par for the course for The Brothers McMullen filmmaker and the famed catwalker, who each had a string of high-profile breakups to their names.

Before Turlington, Burns had shacked up with his Sidewalks of New York costar Heather Graham in a Hollywood Hills love nest, but the bliss was short-lived. Other flames in his past included Lauren Holly, whom he met on the set of 1998's No Looking Back, and former high school sweetheart and McMullen costar Maxine Bahns.

Turlington, in the meantime, was getting over a five-year relationship with the Lost Boys' Jason Patric when she met Burns. She had previously dated the likes of Christian Slater and screenwriter Roger Wilson.

No word on where the freshly minted couple will honeymoon, but they should have plenty of time to enjoy playing newlyweds. Burns recently starred in the grifter flick Confidence opposite Rachel Weisz and Dustin Hoffman and just wrapped shooting on A Sound of Thunder, a time-traveling thriller due out in 2004. As for the missus, her days of posing for the camera are over. Now, Turlington hawks a line of yoga-related merchandise and is an advocate for the American Cancer Society.
