Brolin Busted for Domestic Battery
Former Goonie Josh Brolin is in trouble for some alleged goon-like behavior.
The actor was busted Sunday and charged with one misdemeanor count of domestic battery following a squabble with wife Diane Lane at the couple's Los Angeles home.
The 36-year-old Brolin, who tied the knot with the 39-year-old Lane a little more than four months ago, was booked, fingerprinted and released on $20,000 bail, according to Los Anglees City Attorney spokesman Frank Mateljan.
"There was a call placed to the police about five minutes to three in the morning on Sunday. Police arrived and took Mr. Brolin to the West Hollywood police station where he was booked [on the misdemeanor]," Mateljan said, noting that standard procedure in such cases is to take the accused into custody, even if there are no signs of battery.
A source familiar with the incident said Lane exhibited no "visible signs" of injury.
Prosecutors are still reviewing the case to determine whether to file charges. Another option is to set up an office meeting with both parties. Brolin's arraignment has tentatively been scheduled for Jan. 13.
The couple's publicist, Kelly Bush, said in a statement that Brolin and Lane just wanted to put the incident behind them.
"There was a misunderstanding at their home. Diane called the police. Josh ended up being arrested for the lowest-end misdemeanor charge of domestic battery," Bush told E! Online. "Diane did not want to press charges and asked them not to arrest him, but in cases involving the possibility of any physical contact, the police have to arrest first, ask questions later. They are home together and are embarrassed the matter went this far."
The actress, who scored an Oscar nomination for her role as a philandering wife opposite Richard Gere in the 2002 relationship drama Unfaithful, married with Brolin in August following a three-year courtship that began in 2001 when the two met at the L.A. premiere party for A Beautiful Mind.
It's the second marriage for both. Lane was hitched for six years to Highlander star Christopher Lambert, with whom she has a 10-year-old daughter. Brolin has two children, a son and a daughter, from his union with actress Alice Adair.
Before meeting Lane, the erstwhile Goonies star came close to walking down the aisle with Minnie Driver, but the two eventually called it quits for unspecified reasons.
Brolin, the son of James Brolin (and stepson of Barbra Streisand), headlined the short-lived 2003 political drama series Mr. Sterling. He next returns to the big screen with a role in Woody Allen's new film, Melinda and Melinda, due in March and recently wrapped filming on the action movie Into the Blue. He's also set to appear in the upcoming TV miniseries Into The West.
Lane, meanwhile, has two films in the pipeline: the Griffin Dunne-directed drama Fierce People and Must Love Dogs, a romantic comedy opposite John Cusack.
