Brit's Manager, Pet Parenting Skills Both MIA?

Britney Spears' former manager is in hiding. Maybe he's trying to lead by example.

While the onetime pop princess spent her weekend manning would-be traffic citations and house calls from animal services, Spears' former career Svengali, Larry Rudolph, was doing his best not to further damage his old client's personal or professional standing—by remaining in hiding from Kevin Federline's subpoena-happy prosecution.

Rudolph told E! News anchor Ryan Seacrest via BlackBerry over the weekend that he has spent the past few weeks essentially on the run from Federline's process server in order to avoid testifying in the ex-couple's ongoing child-custody case.

According to Seacrest, who relayed Rudolph's in-hiding status on his KIIS-FM radio show Monday morning, Rudolph wishes to remain loyal to Spears despite an on-again, off-again professional relationship with the singer with whom he has twice parted ways. Per Seacrest, Rudolph claimed if he were made to testify under oath, it "won't be good for Britney."

The manager also said in his weekend communication with the E! News anchor that all the major tabloids are trying to track him down and that, while he copped to having recently spent vacation time with his kids in Maui, he does not wish to divulge his current whereabouts.

Unfortunately for her, Spears is not quite so easy to lose track of, least of all by the tabloids.

As it is, she managed to get tongues wagging with two more major headline-making antics over the weekend, starting off with a surprise tête-à-tête with the cops.

As chronicled by the ever-present paparazzi, a blond be-wigged Spears was pulled over late Saturday night while heading east on the 10 freeway, reportedly on her way to Las Vegas. The California Highway Patrol stopped Spears' white Mercedes convertible at approximately 12:30 a.m. Spears was behind the wheel at the time of the incident and was accompanied by two male passengers, one of whom has since been identified as choreographer R.J. Durell.

Officials said Spears, who claimed she was speeding to avoid the paparazzi, was "cooperative" and let her off with a warning. However, after the encounter, Spears handed over the driving reins to one of her fellow passengers, who turned the car back west toward Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, the singer, who is rumored to be making a "surprise" appearance at the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards in Sin City next month, may be embroiled in more serious matters than late night joyriding.

Representatives from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals made a pit stop at Spears' Beverly Hills home Friday as part of their investigation into why the newest member of her domesticated menagerie, a Yorkie puppy named London, had been snapped with a cast on his leg.

The investigation, which was lobbed not to determine whether an accident had taken place, but whether the dog was receiving proper treatment as a result of the accident, was kicked off after several complaints were lodged with the SPCA. The matter was concluded Monday when the organization received confirmation from a veterinarian that the dog's leg had been properly set.

"SPCA-LA would like to thank Ms. Spears for her cooperation on this matter as well as members of the public for their ongoing concern for the welfare of animals," they said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Spears' lawyers were back on the inside of a courtroom Monday for an unscheduled hearing in her ongoing child custody dispute. Both Spears' attorney, Dennis Wasser, and Federline's attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, were in the Los Angeles County Superior Courtroom, though Spears and Federline were not present. Documents stemming from the closed proceeding were filed under seal.

While Spears is busy tending to her latest onslaught of PR from hell, Federline is continuing his assault on the small screen, having spent Friday on the Wilmington, North Carolina, set of One Tree Hill to begin shooting his multi-episode guest stint as a wannabe rapper.

The role follows Federline's equally taxing character study of Cole Tritt, a young thug, on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, last year. Spears' ex touched back down in Los Angeles Saturday night.
