Britney Does the Lawyer Shuffle

Britney Spears is apparently making a habit of switching up her legal representation.

After Laura Wasser confirmed Monday that she had stepped down as the tarnished pop princess' lawyer, attorney Melvin Goldsman was named as her replacement.

However, after just a few brief hours with Goldsman on retainer, Spears has now hired high-powered divorce attorney Sorrell Trope to take the reins in her ever more complicated custody battle with ex-husband Kevin Federline.

"Yes, it's true Ms. Spears quit Melvin Goldsman's firm, but we haven't been officially retained yet," Trope told People on Tuesday. "The paperwork has not been signed, and it has to have our firm's, Goldsman's and Ms. Spears' signatures. I anticipate it will be signed [Wednesday]."

Spears' latest legal shuffle comes after a judge ruled Monday that she would have to submit to twice-weekly drug and alcohol testing in order to keep joint custody of her two sons.

Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Scott M. Gordon said that based on evidence presented, he considered Spears to be a "habitual, frequent and continuous" user of controlled substances.

In order to ensure that she does not manage to slip anything by the court, her drug tests will be administered on different days of the week and at different times. The results of the tests will be sealed by the court.

The judge also ordered both Spears and Federline to undergo coparenting counseling, to complete the county's Parenting Without Conflict program and to refrain from badmouthing each other in public and within earshot of one-year-old Jayden James and two-year-old Sean Preston.

Both parents were told to refrain from alcohol or nonprescription drug use within 12 hours of caring for their children and forbidden from using corporal punishment to discipline the boys.

Spears must also undergo court-ordered individual counseling and meet with a parenting coach for a total of eight hours a week to address child-care issues.

The coach will observe the 25-year-old mom's interactions with her boys and provide the Federline camp with a report on those findings by Oct. 25. The coach will also appear in court to answer Gordon's questions on Nov. 26.

If all goes according to the judge's orders, the couple's joint custody arrangement, in place since their divorce was finalized in July, will remain in  effect.

Spears apparently wasn't sweating the court-ordered drug testing overmuch--shortly after the judge handed down his ruling, she was spotted hitting the Hollywood club scene Tuesday night with unlikely party pal Avril Lavigne and "cousin" Alli Sims.
