Bottling the Danny DeVito Experience
When life gives Danny DeVito lemons, he makes limoncello.
The actor has launched a signature line of the citrus-flavored liqueur that reportedly fueled his seemingly drunken appearance on The View back in November.
DeVito's date with the chatfest came on the heels of a night out on the town with George Clooney, who admitted he might have contributed to the problem by tricking his little friend into consuming more limoncello than he realized.
"I got to the point where I was dumping the shots into—ah, you know—a plant next to me and um, I don't think…I don't think Danny saw me do that," Clooney told the Today show shortly after the incident.
Indeed, DeVito had not yet sobered up when it came time to make his way onto the View set, where he was ostensibly meant to promote his latest film.
Instead, the diminutive actor ranted about topics ranging from his distaste for President George W. Bush (whom he referred to as "numbnuts") to his sex life with wife Rhea Perlman, and even perched himself on Rosie O'Donnell's ample lap at one point, much to Barbara Walters' visible dismay.
"I knew it was the last seven limoncellos that was going to get me," he explained.
It may not have been his proudest moment, but sales of the Italian liqueur promptly went up thanks to all the free publicity, while DeVito reaped the benefits of the clip's popularity on the Internet.
"I got congratulatory calls from all over the world," he said in January.
Apparently, the actor decided he might as well milk the limoncello link for all it was worth and partnered with beverage purveyor Harbrew Imports, Ltd. to develop Danny DeVito's Premium Limoncello. The resulting concoction is expected to sell for under $25 a bottle when it hits stores this summer.
"We're thrilled to partner with Danny to develop an exquisite limoncello that's truly worthy of bearing his name," Harbrew CEO Richard DeCicco said in a statement. "He's a beloved entertainer with a refined palate and a taste for the good life, and this spirit suits his spirit perfectly."
