Bobby Brown's Just Desserts

Call off the bloodhounds--Bobby Brown has been located in the vicinity of a shrimp cocktail.

MIA from authorities for more than a month, the former New Jack Swinger spent some quality time in a Georgia jail cell this weekend, after police arrested him Friday night as he chowed down with wife Whitney Houston in the Atlanta suburb of Alpharetta.

Police interrupted the couple's meal at the Atlantic Seafood restaurant and quietly took the 34-year-old Brown into custody, courtesy of a tip from a fellow diner who notified authorities after he remembered a report that the crooner was wanted in nearby DeKalb county for failing to complete his probation, stemming from misdemeanor drunken-driving charges.

"We sent officers to the restaurant, and to avoid a scene, asked the management to go to his table and request he walk to the front door," Alpharetta Police Sergeant Chris Lagerbloom told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

While it wasn't exactly his prerogative, Brown gave himself up.

"He was very cooperative," said Lagerbloom. "We put him in the back seat, and the officer drove him to the Dekalb County Jail. The whole thing was quick, low-keyed and easy."

The onetime New Edition idol, who owns a home with Houston in Alpharetta, remained behind bars as of Sunday.

According to Mickey Jones of the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office, the cops put out an APB on Brown on July 17, after the singer failed to complete 240 hours of community service, attend twice-weekly Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and submit to random drug tests. Brown had failed to check in with his probation officer and police had scoured the area for him but as of last week could not find him at "any known locations."

Brown received a two-year probation and an eight-day jail term, after pleading guilty in January to drunken-driving charges that dated back to 1996--and which included misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence, failing to show proof of insurance, speeding and failing to maintain a lane while driving.

But because DeKalb police don't extradite people for misdemeanors, it wasn't until Brown was tagged in Atlanta last November for having a baggie of pot, speeding and having no driver's license and proof of insurance that they were able to finally nab him for the '96 charges (a trial on the former charges is pending).

Brown knows his way around a jail cell by now. Aside from his eight-day stint earlier this year and his weekend stay, he served 26 days in a Florida jail in 2000 from a drunk-driving incident in that state.

No word on whether he left a tip after Saturday's dinner.
