Biopic Casting Math: Nixon + Leary = Depp + Beatty?

Johnny Depp Jun Sato/WireImage.com
No, Bono and the Edge are not in talks to write the music for a Broadway spectacular about Timothy Leary and Richard Nixon. (But wouldn't that be fun?) They're going to start with the Spider-Man musical, and see how that goes. Anyway, Mr. LSD and Mr. Watergate will be explored in two separate, long-ways-away movies. So, let's check in on casting.

Johnny Depp as Timothy Leary?  If Hoax screenwriter and all-around lovable guy William Wheeler has it his way, Depp will bring his Keith Richards-impersonating hot self onscreen as the psychedelic counterculture icon. See, Wheeler is working on the script. And Wheeler is wise. I think this is a great call. Depp is on such a roll, what with Pirates and the movie that is at the top of my come-out-already list, Sweeney Todd. So, I so vote Depp as Leary. Wheeler, I hope you get your way.

Warren Beatty as Richard Nixon?  No! Please no! Please let the Internet rumors that Beatty will play in Ron Howard's Frost/Nixon be just what they are, rumors! It's not that I don't love Warren, really, I do. But I would prefer to see him get back with Julie Christie for Shampoo Two. I mean, I'm sorry, but Beatty's bone structure and whole sexual aura are just too much for Nixon. Yeah, yeah. Actors transform themselves and blah blah. I'd still rather see Warren with his shirt off.
