Betting on Britney's Pregnancy Test

Britney Spears' trash, is, apparently, an online casino's treasure.

Internet gambling outlet GoldenPalace.com has snapped up what may or may not be the popster's home pregnancy test for $5,001 from a Canadian radio station.

Staff members at Ottawa's Hot 89.9 claimed to have obtained the used test through a connection who retrieved the discarded item from the garbage outside Spears and hubby Kevin Federline's Los Angeles hotel room months ago.

However, the station remained mum on the test until Spears confirmed last month that she was indeed expecting.

Once the announcement was made, staffers hustled to turn a profit, despite being unable to provide any proof that the test actually belonged to Spears.

Authentic or no, when GoldenPalace.com learned of the sale, it jumped at the chance to buy Spears' castoff test, with the caveat that proceeds from the sale would be donated to the Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation and the Easter Seal Society.

"It's great that GoldenPalace.com took the pregnancy test off our hands," said Hot 89.9 radio personality Jeff Mauler in a statement about the sale. "Not only are they helping out a couple of deserving charities, but they are also getting the pee out of our station. That's always a good thing."

It's not the first time that Spears' castoffs have been offered up for sale at many times their original value.

Last year, for example, several motivated eBay sellers attempted to auction off what they claimed were used pieces of the "Toxic" singer's chewing gum.

Also offered up for sale were a pair of lacy panties that a seller claimed Spears wore on her wedding night, as well as an invitation to the Spears-Federline union.

Finally, in an auction only a true Spears fan could appreciate, a seller attempted to hawk an empty Cheetos bag reportedly snatched from a Los Angeles trashcan moments after the "Oops" singer finished devouring its contents.

Meanwhile, GoldenPalace.com's purchase of Spears' pregnancy test is just the latest in a series of wacky buys completed by the gambling purveyor.

The online casino is also the proud owner of a 10-year-old grilled cheese sandwich supposedly bearing the image of the Virgin Mary, which it snapped up for $28,000, a Volkswagen Golf previously owned by Pope Benedict XVI, which it bought for $244,590.83 and the "Lincoln Fry," a prop created by McDonald's for a Super Bowl ad campaign, for which it paid $75,100.

In addition, there are now a few individuals legally bearing the name GoldenPalace.com. A Tennessee woman formerly known as Terri Ilagan was the first to sell off the rights to her name to the casino for $15,199 in March. Since then, a baby girl named GoldenPalace.com was born in Connecticut last month--her parents having sold the right to name her for $15,100. Another GoldenPalace.com is due later this year.

"This has truly become a phenomenon and has changed the way people think about marketing," GoldenPalace.com CEO Richard Rowe said in a statement. "It seems like there are no limits to what can be advertised. Perhaps the name 'GoldenPalace.com' will be as common as 'Richard' in a few years from now."

It might be something to consider, should Spears and Federline be having a tough time choosing a name for their offspring from the approved list of celebrity monikers. (But then again, no-one's used 'Banana' yet.)

On Wednesday, Spears released her latest "Stream of Consciousness" on her official Website, extolling her love of "eating for two."

"Eating for two is so much fun; I get to eat lots and lots," Spears gushed.

According to the missive, Spears and Federline just returned from a two-week vacation in Arizona, where Spears "lived at the spa and gym."

Now the twosome is preparing for the upcoming debut of their UPN reality series, Britney and Kevin: Chaotic.

"Doing a documentary series seemed like the last thing I would do," Spears wrote. "Having our series be compared to all the 'reality shows' on television right now and putting ourselves out there seemed crazy, but that is exactly when I realized I should do it. The craziest things I've ever done have always been for the best."

Right--like that quickie Vegas wedding. But who's counting? Chaotic premieres May 17.
