Bennifer Back Together?
Reunited and it feels so good. Or does it?
A Ben and Jen sighting has thrown the media into a marriage-minded tizzy. The winsome twosome were spotted together Monday at the Liberty County court building near their island home in Savannah, Georgia.
The appearance attracted a mass of paparazzi and celebrity reporters and sparked a frenzy of speculation over a secret wedding for the on-again, off-again power couple, who nixed their planned nuptials two weeks ago citing "excessive media attention."
But it appears it was a false alarm. Affleck was in the market for a gun license--not a wedding license--according to a court clerk. Sources close to the couple also denied any reports of a clandestine ceremony.
"Affleck wanted to know where he could apply for a gun permit," Liberty County Sheriff Don Martin told the Associated Press.
Mr. Armageddon was apparently getting in touch with his inner tough guy over the weekend, perusing the gun department at the local Pro Bass outdoor shop following a shopping spree with Jenny.
While we await the next breathless installment in the Bennifer saga, here's a quick timeline of the wedding gone wrong.
Sept. 3: Details of the purported wedding, scheduled to take place in Santa Barbara, emerge in Us Weekly and the New York Daily News. In clear violation of proper wedding protocol, an estimated 400 guests are invited to the blessed affair by phone.Sept. 8: An argument between the happy couple threatens their impending nuptials, reports Us.
Sept. 9: J.Lo reportedly visits Afro-Cuban psychic Merle Gonzalez, who recommends the diva postpone her "I do's."
Sept. 10: Lopez and Affleck's union is officially postponed. Bennifer places the blame on the media: "When we found ourselves seriously contemplating hiring three separate 'decoy brides' at three different locations, we realized that something was awry." That same night, the couple attempt to quell the rumor mill by dining together at the Ivy--gossip columnists don't buy the photo op.
Sept. 12: J.Lo retreats to Miami Beach, where she spends a night on the town with her friends sans her 6.1 carat engagement rock. Affleck is spotted playing high-stakes poker at Larry Flynt's Hustler casino in Gardena, California, until six in the morning.
Sept. 14: A busy day. Sources close to Affleck confirm the twosome have split as the Daredevil star turns up at Baja Fresh Mexican Grill with three female friends in tow. In related news, a People magazine reporter is arrested for trespassing on a private construction road near Bennifer's $1.7 million Hampton Island estate in Georgia.
Sept. 15: Sources very close to Jenny from the Block deny the superstar has split from her high-profile beau.
Sept. 16: Affleck boards a private plane to Savannah, Georgia. Affleck is reportedly joined at the Hamptons mansion by little bro Casey.
Sept. 19: Lopez joins her fiancé at their 86-acre Georgia plantation. A National Enquirer reporter spies the duo out for a spin in a 1966 Chevelle she bought for him. When the jalopy breaks down, the celebs are forced to walk to a nearby gas station.
Sept. 20: Ben and Jen upgrade to a green Range Rover for a trip to nearby Savannah, where they hit Best Buy, Barnes & Noble and the aforementioned Pro Bass outdoor shop, according to the Daily News. The same day, the FAA grounds paparazzi planes with a 24-hour flight restriction over Bennifer's property due to issues of "public safety or security."
Sept. 22: Affleck visits the Liberty County courthouse with Lopez in tow, as it turns out, to enquire about a gun permit. (Paparazzi beware.) Court officials aren't immediately available for comment, prompting speculation about a possible hush-hush ceremony, which sources close to the couple quickly deny.
