Ben & Jerry Scoop Colbert

Vermont-based ice cream purveyor unleashes a new culturally relevant flavor, Stephen Colbert's Americone Dream

Ben & Jerry's is fudging the truthiness.

The maker of Phish Food, Cherry Garcia and Vermonty Python is adding Stephen Colbert's Americone Dream to its collection of cult figure-inspired ice cream flavors.

Billed as "the sweet taste of liberty in your mouth," Americone Dream is vanilla ice cream packed with fudge-covered pieces of waffle cone and a caramel—or is that a conservative?—swirl.

"I'm not afraid to say it. Dessert has a well-known liberal agenda," Colbert said in a statement. "What I hope to do with this ice cream is bring some balance back to the freezer case."

Freedom has never tasted so sweet.

The host of the Emmy-nominated Colbert Report will be donating his portion of the proceeds to the newly established Stephen Colbert Americone Dream Fund, which will then dole out the dough to various charities.

Of course, Ben & Jerry's isn't the first organization to take a spin in the no-fact zone. Last year the San Francisco Zoo dubbed a bald eagle "Stephen Jr." in honor of the farcical Comedy Central pundit. The creature received national attention when Colbert scolded it for migrating to Canada.

Then, in October 2006, the Ontario Hockey League's Saginaw Spirit adopted Stephen Colbeagle the Eagle as its comascot. You can bet the Michigan team's win-loss record immediately improved.

And while it may not exactly bridge the gap between Left and Right, Ben & Jerry's new Colbert-inspired treat is sure to please palates of all stripes and political proclivities.

The Vermont-based company, which has always displayed a yen for cultural relevance, also currently offers such pun-happy flavors as the apple-y American Pie, Dave Matthews Band Magic Brownies and Neapolitan Dynamite. Discontinued, yet equally cleverly named, concoctions have included From Russia with Buzz, The Full VerMonty, Hunka Burnin' Fudge and Nutcracker Suite.
