Beasties, Rage Permanently Dump Tour Plans
After postponing tour plans in July when Beastie Boy Mike D busted his shoulder, the hip-hop elder statesmen now say their much-anticipated road show with politically charged rockers Rage Against the Machine won't be rescheduled after all.
Blaming "insurmountable logistical, scheduling, and health problems," the B-Boys released a statement offering their "profound apologies to all artists, personnel and, most of all, our fans who had been looking forward to the tour." Refunds for the canceled shows are available at all Ticketmaster outlets and other points of purchase.
Just before the 30-date Rhyme & Reason tour was set to kick off August 2 in Toronto, Mike D took a (hello) nasty spill while riding his bike in New York while riding home from rehearsal. The injury required reconstructive surgery of his right shoulder, and doctors expected the rehabilitation to take about three months.
The decision not to reschedule, however, marks yet another dream tour shattered by injuries this season. Two weeks ago, the Black Crowes and guitar god Jimmy Page permanently nixed the remainder of their joint U.S. and European tour after Page, 56, injured his back in August. With the pairing forced to cancel even the dates it rescheduled, the Wallflowers are now set to replace Page and the Crowes in their opening spot for the Who on October 3, 4, 6 and 7 at New York's Madison Square Garden.
Meanwhile, those still needing their Beasties fix can pick up a new DVD on October 10--an anthology of the hip-hopsters' music videos, including favorites like "Intergalactic," "Hey Ladies" and "Sabotage," and featuring hundreds of camera angles and remixes will be released by Criterion.
