"BBII" Kicks "Tailfeather" on Charts

The Bad Boys II soundtrack proved for a second week that II is number one on the charts.

For the second straight week, the P. Diddy-produced, hip-hop-driven disc dominated album sales on the strength of its hit single "Shake Ya Tailfeather."

Holding off five Top 10 debuts, the soundtrack closed the week ended July 26 by moving 197,000 copies, according to SoundScan data. The film itself finished third at the box office over the weekend, but its $88.5 million two-week take already surpasses the total box office of 1995 original.

Now That's What I Call Music! 13 led the new chart debuts at number two, selling 171,000 copies. The onetime powerhouse of hits compilations has slipped in recent years, possibly due to repeatedly similar lineups. Eight artists that appear on the new disc--Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake, Chevelle, Jennifer Lopez, Vanessa Carlton, Nas, 3 Doors Down and B2K--also had songs on Now 12.

Mya's Moodring, which juices up the singer's sexy image, landed at number three with 113,000 copies. Jane's Addiction followed at four with 110,000 copies of Strays, the group's first new studio album in 13 years. Midwest rap-rockers 311 checked in at seven with Evolver ( 87,000) and country crooner Brad Paisley at eight with Mud on the Tires (86,000).

Leftovers made up the rest of the Top 10: Beyoncé Knowles' Dangerously in Love at five, Chingy's Jackpot at six, Ashanti's Chapter II at nine and Evanescence's Fallen in the 10 spot.

Three more artists made Top 40 bows. Orange County, California, punks Thrice opened at 16 with Artist in the Ambulance, while The KISS Symphony: Alive IV--the veteran rock group's latest between-retirements release--debuted at 18. Eve 6, which hits the road with Good Charlotte this fall, debuted at 27 with It's All In Your Head.

Other notable debuts included Pantera frontman Phil Anselmo's side-group Superjoint Ritual opening at 55 with Lethal Dose of American Hatred, Queensr˙che's Tribe at 56, the American Wedding soundtrack at 67, The Pirates of the Caribbean score at 84, Insane Clown Posse's Violent J's solo release Wizard of the Hood at 89, the Dylan-led soundtrack to Masked and Anonymous at 94, Mack 10's Ghetto Gutter & Gangster at 105 and Cheap Trick's Special One at 128.

In the where-are-they-know bin, Vanilla Ice's Hot Sex and Danny Wood's Second Face couldn't even muster enough sales to crack the Top 200. A decade ago, both the Ice Man and Wood's New Kids on the Block were doing no less than topping the charts.

Meanwhile, on the singles chart, Korn's "Did My Time" came within 600 copies of stopping Clay Aiken's eight-week run at number one. Nevertheless, the American Idol runner-up remained chart champ with "Bridge Over Troubled Water/This Is the Night," while Ruben Suddard's "Flying Without Wings/Superstar" dropped to number three.
