Austin Nichols Ups Hollywood DUI Count

Stop us if you've heard this one before: A member of the young Hollywood set has been busted for a DUI after driving the wrong way down a one-way street in the early morning hours.

The difference this time: It was a Tinseltown bad boy, rather than girl, who found himself in the police blotter.

Austin Nichols, the TV actor whose best known credit may be as Jake Gyllenhaal's favored workout buddy, was busted on suspicion of drunken driving in Jackson, Michigan, early Friday after officers spotted his silver Mercury Mountaineer heading the wrong way down a local street.

The erstwhile John from Cincinnati star was pulled over just after 2:40 a.m. The officer on the scene reported that he smelled alcohol on the young thesp's breath and conducted a Breathalyzer test at the scene, a Jackson County Sheriff's Department spokesman told E! News.

Nichols' blood-alcohol level measured in at 0.10 percent, well above the state's 0.08 percent legal limit. Nichols was arrested and taken to the Jackson County Jail, where he was booked and released nearly six hours later, at 8:40 a.m.

An arraignment date has not yet been set; once a hearing is scheduled, Nichols, 27, will be required to appear in court.

Should the onetime Deadwood actor be convicted of the misdemeanor charge, he would not only join a growing number of celeb DUIers but would face up to 93 days in jail, a $500 fine and plenty of community service.

According to the Jackson Citizen Patriot, which first reported the arrest, Nichols has been living at the nearby Clark Lake, about 65 miles west of Detroit, for the duration of the summer with extended family members.

The vacation has probably lasted longer than expected after HBO abruptly canceled John from Cincinnati just after its first-season finale aired earlier this month. The show, from Deadwood mastermind David Milch, was a dark comedy about surfers and mysticism that failed to attract much of an audience in the post-Entourage slot.

In addition to the late series, Nichols has also appeared in the film Wimbledon opposite Kirsten Dunst and starred alongside Gyllenhaal in The Day After Tomorrow.
