In music news that would likely have proven devastating in 2003 but today does little more than trigger slight early aughts nostalgia, Aussie rockers Jet have announced that they've broken up.

The "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" rockers made the announcement on their website yesterday.

But what did they give as the reason for their split? Was it rock excess at its best? Interband feuding? Something else suitably rock and roll?

Probably not. At least, not that we know, seeing as how the rockers kept it classy in their final dispatch as a band.

"After many successful years of writing, recording and touring we wish to announce our discontinuation as a group," the Get Born artists, who banded together in 2001 before releasing their debut album 2003, wrote.

"From the many pubs, theatres, stadiums and festivals all across the world, it was the fans that made our amazing story possible and we wish to thank them all. Thank you, and goodnight."

Though they never recreated their runaway straight-out-of-the-gate success, the rockers—whose debut album remained their biggest—went platinum in the U.S. and eight times platinum in their native Australia. They released two subsequent albums, Shine On, in 2006, and Shaka Rock, in 2009.

Diehard fans won't have to mourn for long, however. Bandmates Chris Cester and Mark Wilson formed a side project, DAMNDOGS, last year, which is expected to carry on.
