Ashley Judd Responds to Backlash Over "Rape Culture" Comments

As it turns out, Ashley Judd isn't up for any hip-hop beef.

After she sparked a Twitter war with Roots drummer ?uestlove—and a possible fallout with the entire hip-hop world—by stating in her new memoir that those artists promote "rape culture," the Kiss the Girls star reached out to friend Russell Simmmons Friday to make amends.

"My intention was to support artists to know that they have so much power, that they make incredible life-changing impressions, particularly on the young," Judd explained to Simmons in his Global Grind blog. "And we have choices every day with our expressions, we either empower and celebrate unity or to re-enforce inequality and degradation. We are either part of the problem, or part of the solution. There is no in-between."

But that wasn't all.

"What I'm being accused of is condemning rap and hip-hop as a whole, and the whole community and when they say community, they mean the fans, and African-Americans, it's become so generalized," the actress continued. "My intention was to take a stand to say the elements that are misogynistic and treat girls and women in a hyper-sexualized way are inappropriate."

Judd claimed she meant no harm or foul with her rant, saying she "regretted" indicting the rap culture as a whole.

But will her apology help settle the feud? Doesn't seem like it...yet.

After her interview appeared online, ?uestlove tweeted Friday night, "ROTF!!!!!!! We just got stopped at a sobriety checkpoint!!!!!!! Ash Judd WAS right son!"

Meanwhile, both Sean "Diddy" Combs and Snoop Dogg, who Judd specifically pointed fingers at in All That Is Bitter and Sweet, have been mum on the topic.
