Arnold's "Best Damn Show" Woes
It may be the Best Damn Sport Show Period but Fox Sports Network's sports talk show may not be the best damn place to work for one disgruntled hairstylist.
Hosts Tom Arnold and former NBA player John Salley, along with other testosterone-charged crew members, have been named in a sexual harassment suit filed by Lisa Brescher, a stylist on the show since August 2001, who claims that from day one she was "subjected to an environment of unrestrained sexual harassment," reports the Associated Press.
Arnold was not accused of harassment, only of being insensitive to the young woman's plight.
According to the Superior Court lawsuit filed Wednesday, Brescher, 29, left the show on a disability claim in February--it's unclear if the disability is related to the wolf whistles she was receiving at work or because of a legitimate injury.
Meanwhile, Fox fired back Thursday with a statement discrediting the stylist. "In response to Brescher's claims, Fox conducted a thorough investigation, and none of her allegations of unlawful conduct were corroborated," reads the statement.
"To the contrary, it appears that she herself engaged in inappropriate, unprofessional behavior at work. Also, initial reports as to the suit's contents are inaccurate. For example, the suit in no way alleges any sexual harassment by Tom Arnold, and it would be scurrilous to suggest otherwise," continued the statement released Thursday.
Instead, the network suggests that Brescher is looking for easy money. "Fox takes pride in providing a workplace free from all forms of unlawful harassment. Unfortunately, this is a case where a disgruntled worker thinks that there is money to be made by making outlandish accusations against a high-profile company and its stars."
Brescher maintains she was the victim of unwanted sexual advances from Salley and others, and that when she confronted Arnold he replied "he didn't care." The suit, which also names Fox Sports Network, claims that the former Mr. Roseanne Barr labeled her "a troublemaker" and banished her from the set, which made it hard to continue coiffing the show's hosts.
When she filed a sexual harassment suit with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Arnold allegedly retaliated by nixing her "lucrative Sunday shift."
Arnold's camp insist Brescher was banned from the set because of her "continued arguing and excessive talking with other staff members," according to the host's publicist, Staci Wolfe.
According to a statement from Wolfe, Arnold denies the allegations and is considering launching a countersuit against Brescher. "Tom Arnold has a no-tolerance policy with respect to sexual harassment, and had he ever been told by Lisa Brescher (plaintiff) that she was being sexually harassed by John Salley, he would have demanded that immediate steps be taken to investigate the situation and address her concerns."
However, the lawsuit labels Salley a dirty dawg who "regularly pawed (and) groped" her and made unwelcome references to his sexual abilities. It also contends that Salley made inappropriate comments and "leered" at her.
Other employees also made passes at the young woman, but Brescher claims the alleged behavior of Arnold and Salley was the most offensive.
