Apprentice Chris Fired

It's safe to assume that Apprentice contestant Chris Shelton has seen better days.

The 22-year-old real estate investor made headlines earlier this week after he was arrested for disorderly conduct last weekend after allegedly causing a scene in a Tampa casino.

Then, in the wake of his 15 minutes of bad publicity, he was fired by Donald Trump in Thursday's episode of The Apprentice after bungling his duties as project manager of the "street smart" NetWorth team.

All in all, not a good week.

Shelton teared up and sobbed in the boardroom as the Donald delivered the news, telling his would-be protégé that he was responsible for "a mess of a team."

For their project, the two teams, NetWorth and "book smart" competitors, Magna, were responsible for designing a brochure for General Motors' new two-seater, the Pontiac Solstice.

The all-male NetWorth team of Shelton, Bren and Alex erroneously thought they had a leg up on the estrogen-dominated Magna team in the challenge, banking on the stereotype that cars are a guy thing.

However, their info-heavy brochure featuring fuzzy photos and a beautiful woman draped over the car failed to impress the Pontiac execs, who complained it lacked emotion.

Meanwhile, Magna teammates Kendra, Tana and Craig took an emotional and creative approach with their brochure that wowed the Pontiac honchos, who claimed they planned to use it themselves.

The winning team won a celebratory trip to Madison Square Garden to hang out with some of the Knicks. The losers, per usual, were order to report to the boardroom, where Shelton met his demise.

As a defeated Shelton left the boardroom after hearing the dreaded "You're fired!" Trump showed his little-seen sympathetic side and called Shelton back in to reassure him that he had a lot of potential and would one day be a big success.

Trump also made Shelton promise to cut out his chewing tobacco habit and--tellingly--to watch his temper.

After Shelton's arrest, Trump appeared at a press conference this week and said he felt "very badly" for his former underling.

"He's got a problem," Trump said. "He's got an anger-management problem. We talked about it on the show. He truly is an angry guy."

With Shelton's ousting, five contestants remain to vie for the winning gig. Trump will select his next Apprentice in a live one-hour finale on May 19.
