Anne Hathaway is not only getting smart, she's apparently wising up.

E! News has confirmed that the actress has split from her scandal-prone boyfriend of the past four years, Italian businessman Raffaello Follieri. Rumors of the split have run rampant since Hathaway's solo turn on the red carpet at Monday's Los Angeles premiere of her new movie, Get Smart.

"There's been a breakup, God willing it's forever," a source close to the Hathaway family told E! News, adding that the actress' father, lawyer Gerald, has not exactly been a cheerleader for the relationship.

Those on the 25-year-old's payroll, however, were slightly more tight-lipped.

"We won't be commenting on tabloid reports about Anne's personal life," Hathaway's publicist, Stephen Huvane, told E! News.

The 29-year-old Follieri has been no stranger to headlines of late.

E! News has exclusively obtained documents from the New York State Supreme Court, filed last Thursday, indicating that Follieri has failed to pay American Express Bank $499,100.21, with interest stemming back to Sept. 7. A default judgment has been filed against him.

Last week, it was revealed that the entrepreneur was under investigation by the New York State Attorney General after it was discovered the state had no record of the requisite IRS tax disclosure forms for his Follieri Foundation. Hathaway once served on the organization's board of directors.

He also generated press back in April, when he was arrested for allegedly bouncing a $215,000 check to an associate and failing to pay his public relations company.

Needless to say, it was not the best PR move.
