Anna & Enrique: Newlyweds or No?

Depending on who you believe Anna Kournikova and Enrique Iglesias may have made their love match official.

Or have they?

Known for toying with the press concerning the state of their union, the retired tennis hottie and the Latin crooner supposedly tied the knot for real several weeks ago in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico--or so they say.

The camera-friendly twosome, who can generally be found joined at the lips, hips and any other body parts that strike their fancy, supposedly said their vows in an ultra-private ceremony on the beach, according to Us Weekly. It was the latest in a string of reports in recent months stating the two had been hitched.

However, court officials in charge of registering weddings in Puerto Vallarta and nearby Nuevo Vallarta claim they have no record of the supposed nuptials.

That doesn't mean we have a Britney Federline situation on our hands just yet--Kournikova and Iglesias could have wed in a religious ceremony, which would not be recognized in Mexico and would still leave their marriage situation unsettled.

Kournikova publicist Ivy Mollenkamp was mum Tuesday on the marital status, saying, "We never comment on our client's personal lives." Likewise, reps for Iglesias declined to discuss the maybe-newlyweds. But, according to Kournikova herself, her singles days are over--and she's not just talking tennis.

The blonde bombshell reportedly copped to being off the market at a charity tennis event in Boca Raton, Florida last Friday.

"Enrique is great. Everything is awesome. We are married," she told onlookers while flaunting a wedding ring, per Us Weekly.

But can she be trusted on matters matrimonial? Kournikova has joked in the past about being married to Iglesias, but denied that she married Russian hockey star Sergei Fedorov in 2001. Their brief union only became public after Fedorov dished about it following their divorce.

One thing's for sure--Kournikova's career wouldn't be an impediment to married life. The short-skirt wearing, oft-Googled tennis diva officially hung up her racquet last March after suffering from chronic back pain.

Though Kournikova was once ranked eighth in the world, she never won a major tournament, though she did score plenty of endorsements, thanks to her looks and trademark blonde ponytail.

In 2002, the sexy Russian was named FHM magazine's Sexiest Woman in the World. That same year, she starred in the video for Iglesias' hit, "Escape," and the two began dating.

Iglesias, the son of Julio Iglesias, has sold more than 15 million albums worldwide. His Spanish-language album, Quizas, released in 2002, won a Latin Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Album. His latest effort, Seven, was released in 2003.

Both halves of the celeb duo have tried their hand on the big screen. Kournikova had a small role in 2000's Me, Myself and Irene with Jim Carrey, while Iglesias appeared in 2003's Once Upon a Time in Mexico with Salma Hayek.

If their union is in fact official, we're voting for Enrique and Anna to take over as the next Nick and Jessica--pronto. With all the drama surrounding their nuptials, we smell ratings gold.
