Aniston: Wedding Rumors Are "Insane"
According to Jennifer Aniston, what you're currently feeding on is nothing but "bull."
While rumor (and Us Weekly) has it that she and beau Vince Vaughn are headed down the aisle any minute, the 37-year-old actress wants everyone to know, once and for all, that all of the wedding stories are just "insane."
Aniston told People magazine Wednesday that she is not engaged, doesn't have a ring and has not even been proposed to, and that "people are getting fed a lot of bull" about the direction of her and Vaughn's relationship.
If you've been following the paper/TV trail, Aniston and Vaughn have been engaged, unengaged, broken up, back together and, once again, engaged--all in the last couple of months. And that doesn't include the reports, in April, that Oprah Winfrey was throwing the couple an $8 million blowout wedding, which eventually led Aniston to call into Winfrey's show to set the record straight. (For the record, the Break-Up star called the story, "so unbelievable.")
"Normally, we don't even acknowledge these things, because they're endless," Aniston told People Wednesday, but "at this point, the thing that got me was that I was getting phone calls from Greece! My Aunt Mary in Greece is getting accused of lying! I mean, they're getting angry. My dad calls and he says, 'Honey, it's on the CNN crawl,' and I'm going, 'Wait a second!'
"When it starts to travel over into the Today show and CNN, and supposedly reliable and accurate news programs, then you just go, 'This is insane. People are getting fed a lot of bull.' "
For the time being, she and Vaughn are "having a good time" together, Aniston said. "We're just being."
In a cover story last week, Us Weekly reported the duo as "just being" engaged, prompting a denial from Aniston's rep, Stephen Huvane, and then a recap on the magazine's Website detailing all of the times Huvane has misled the press in the past about the true state of Aniston's affairs. (Brad and Jen planning to marry? "No." Brad and Jen splitting up? "No." Jen and Vince dating? "No.")
And now? "I think the People.com piece speaks for itself," Huvane told E! Online.
In the meantime, Aniston told People that she was moved to debunk the latest set of rumors, after seeing that "mainstream media" outlets were spinning tales of their own.
"I don't feed into that," she said. "[My friends and I] don't talk about it. We don't hash it out because it's not true. The only reason I?m saying something is because if we're listening to the news, we're supposed to be believing in the news. Tabloids are going to lie all the time. You're prepared for that. But it's the news. And you think, 'Well, we need to trust what our newscasters are saying, when we have this horrific situation that's actually taking place in the world. I mean, we are getting reported the truth, right?' "
Right.
"The American people need to believe [the news]," she said. "Please. Get it together. So, that's all."
Despite Aniston's statement that she and her friends don't give most of the stories out there the time of day, it's still nice to have Friends who will speak out publicly on your behalf.
Courteney Cox weighed in, via Access Hollywood on Tuesday, saying that her former costar and Vaughn "are absolutely not engaged.
"Unless it happened in the last 20 minutes... No, it did not happen."
