Aniston Digs Cox's Dirt

Jennifer Aniston will be there for Courteney Cox, like she's been there before.

Marking the former costars' first prime-time reunion since Friends went off the air in 2004, Aniston will make a guest appearance in the season finale of Cox's new FX series, Dirt, on Mar. 27.

Rather than revisiting the onscreen camaraderie of their Rachel-and-Monica days, the real-life pals will portray bitter enemies this time around.

Aniston will play Tina Harrod, a rival magazine editor to Cox's character, Lucy Spiller, the determined editor of the National Enquirer-esque Dirt.

"Jennifer loves the show," Cox told reporters at the Television Critics Association conference last week. "We were like, 'Okay, if you came on the show, would you want to play yourself, or do we write a fantastic character for you, or you know maybe you take Dirt down?' "

Aniston is due to report to the Dirt set on Thursday to begin shooting her episode. Thus far, the freshman series has been averaging 3 million viewers per episode, but the added star power will no doubt provide a boost in the ratings.

After living through one of the most extensively chronicled breakups in Hollywood history, Aniston is no stranger to the world of tabloid journalism, which counts her among its favorite subjects, though the feeling isn't mutual.

Last year, the actor took the tabloids to task for reporting that she was engaged to Vince Vaughn (she wasn't) and that Oprah Winfrey was planning to throw her an $8 million wedding (she wasn't), branding the rumors as "insane."

"People are getting fed a lot of bull," Aniston complained to People in August.

Meanwhile, in a recent interview on Howard Stern's satellite radio show, David Arquette defended his wife's friend against tabloid speculation that she has been unable to get over her divorce from Brad Pitt and harbors a grudge against Angelina Jolie.

"Those magazines, they take something and it's working for them so they play it out, but she's not really that sad about the whole thing," Arquette said last week.

"I don't think Jennifer hates [Angelina] either, I don't think it's like that. The way they depict it is completely wrong. She's a very strong woman, she's totally solid, and she's just got a great attitude."

Unfortunately, that's not the kind of scoop that sells magazines.
