Amy Winehouse's Family Speaks Out

Amy Winehouse's father flew back to London as soon as he heard that his daughter had died, and now the late singer's family has spoken out for the first time.

"Our family has been left bereft by the loss of Amy, a wonderful daughter, sister, niece," father Mitch, mother Janis and brother Alex said in a statement released today.

"She leaves a gaping hole in our lives. We are coming together to remember her and we would appreciate some privacy and space at this terrible time."

And they are not the only ones who woke up missing Amy today.

Russell Brand and Katy Perry, Rihanna, Kelly Osbourne, Samantha Ronson, Pete Wentz and Tony Bennett are among the friends and fellow artists who tweeted or issued tributes in Winehouse's memory.

Bennett, who recorded the classic standard "Body and Soul" with Winehouse in March at Abbey Road Studios, called her an "artist of immense proportions."

"I am deeply saddened to learn of her tragic passing," the 84-year-old crooner said in a statement. "She was an extraordinary musician with a rare intuition as a vocalist and I am truly devastated that her exceptional talent has come to such an early end. She was a lovely and intelligent person and when we recorded together she gave a soulful and extraordinary performance.

"I was honored to have the opportunity to sing with her. It had been my sincere hope that she would be able to overcome the issues she was battling and I send my deepest sympathy to her father Mitchell, her entire family and all of those who loved her."

The 27-year-old singer was found dead yesterday afternoon in her London flat. A cause has not been determined and an autopsy will not be performed until at least Monday, according to U.K. authorities.

Though Winehouse was a major talent who won five Grammys for her album Back to Black, her trips to rehab, performance flubs and other signs of substance abuse and health problems were what dominated the media's coverage of her over the last few years.
