A-Rod Wants to Go Hollywood

A-Rod wants on the A-list.

Despite the PR nightmare of being embroiled in a nasty divorce with estranged wife Cynthia and linked in the gossip pages to Madonna, all-world New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez has signed a contract with the William Morris Agency to represent him in entertainment-related deals.

The pact with the elite Tinseltown talent firm was announced today. It was brokered over a period of six months by the superstar's manager, Guy Oseary, who also happens to represent Madonna. It will allow Rodriguez to expand his roster of corporate endorsements and—potentially—acting roles.

"Partnering with William Morris will enable me to broaden the scope of my career in creative and innovative ways," Rodriguez said in a statement. "I'm excited to see what we will be able to accomplish together, both domestically and abroad."

Rodriguez joins a William Morris roster that includes the likes of Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe.

The 32-year-old three-time MVP is the highest-paid player in baseball history, having recently inked a 10-year, $275 million deal with the Yanks.

"In the baseball world, Alex is synonymous with success," said Dave Wirtschafter, president of the agency. "Our job will be to extend that success beyond the field to other opportunities."

Anything to take his mind off that divorce.
