Veronica Mars Sleuths Out Heroes Gig

Veronica Mars is ready for her biggest case yet: a role on Heroes.

Erstwhile small-screen sleuth Kristen Bell is joining the cast of the hit NBC drama for a multiepisode arc, the network announced Monday.

Bell is on track to make her Heroes debut in October. Producers aren't tipping their hands to the exact nature of her character, but, per NBC, she'll play "a sexy, intriguing, mysterious young lady" named Elle, with ties to Peter (Milo Ventimiglia), Claire (Hayden Panettiere) and Claire's father, aka HRG (Jack Coleman). While Elle makes the scene with a bang—committing a "terrible crime"—it will be unclear whether she's really good or possibly the next Sylar.

"This was not easy to pull off," Heroes' mastermind Tim Kring said in a statement. "But since we're an ensemble show, with many arcs playing out through the year, we found a way to jump into a small window in [Bell's] schedule.

"I pitched her the idea we have for the character, which she loved, and we're off and running."

Bell has reportedly been weighing several options since the demise of Veronica Mars, including a role on Lost.

Aside from her upcoming Heroes duty, she is narrating the CW's buzzed-about fall drama Gossip Girl and starring in a trio of films due out in 2008: the Judd Apatow comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall, the Star Wars-themed Fanboys and a voice part in the CGI 'toon Sheepish.

Heroes is up for three Emmys, including Best Drama Series and Best Supporting Actor for Masi Oka. The show kicks off its sophomore season Sept. 24. (Get Watch with Kristin's take right here.)
