Tribeca Fest Review: Gardener of Eden
The 7th Floor/Appian Way
So, I just watched the first of the Tribeca films that I'm covering this year. It's called Gardener of Eden, and it's produced by Leonardo DiCaprio. The film embodies the spirit of Tribeca: shot in NYC, cool celeb element (stars Lukas Haas and is directed by Kevin Connolly) and it centers around lost youth and the quest for purpose in the world. A pretty consistent theme in films I've seen over the years at this festival.
Shout-out to Connolly for an impressive debut behind the lens. There are a few lulls, and the connection between Haas and Erika Christensen seems to fall flat, but nevertheless, there's a gritty realness that transcends the screen. I hope this is a sign of more good films to come.
Also, a shout-out to my boy Andy Fiscella, who plays a cop in the film. During the day, dude's an actor (just shot a film with Oscar winners Forest Whitaker and Jennifer Hudson), and by night, he's the owner of the Dime and Winston's, my two favorite watering holes in La-La Land. Big things, Andy!
Okay, I'm about to check out a few more of these flicks. Tribeca rocks, son!
