Paul Newman may be gone, but his legacy is far from forgotten.

A slew of A-list stars were on hand Monday in San Francisco to continue the acting legend's goodwill, turning up to an annual fundraiser benefiting Newman's charity camp, The Painted Turtle, for children with life-threatening illnesses.

Julia Roberts, Tom Hanks, Jack Nicholson, Danny Glover, Warren Beatty, Annette Bening, Billy Crystal, Sean Penn, Casey Affleck, Joaquin Phoenix, Bruce Willis, Danny DeVito, Bonnie Raitt and Rita Wilson were among the 2,500 headliners and guests.

The night kicked off with a video featuring Newman, who died Sept. 26 at 83 and who had planned the event prior to his death, speaking about his camps.

"What I was trying to do was acknowledge luck," Newman said in the clip, which was narrated by Nicholson. "If you acknowledge it, you have to do something about it—something for the less fortunate."

Following a star-studded staged reading of Ernest Hemingway's The World of Nick Adams, Raitt capped the festivities at Davies Symphony Hall dedicating "Put A Little Love In Your Heart" to the late actor-philanthropist. She was joined on stage by several of the stars as well as children from Newman's camps.

All told, Newman donated more than $250 million to charity during his lifetime.
