Redgrave Postpones Performance After Richardson's Death

A day after burying daughter Natasha Richardson, Vanessa Redgrave is understandably taking time off to grieve.

The reigning matriarch of Britain's legendary acting clan has postponed a performance of the one-woman show, The Year of Magical Thinking. Redgrave had been set to take the stage April 27 at New York City's Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine.

St. John's spokesman, Jonathan Korzen, tells E! News that the one-night-only appearance by the 72-year-old Oscar winner is expected be rescheduled by the end of the week. The rep also added that the church was "deeply saddened" by Richardson's unexpected passing.

Richardson died last Wednesday from a brain injury sustained after a fall during a ski lesson at a Canadian resort. She was 45.

Redgrave flew in from London as Richardson was transferred to a Manhattan hospital and remained at her daughter's bedside as she was removed from life support.

Along Richardson's widower, Liam Neeson, Redgrave and daughter Joely Richardson were among the few dozen mourners at yesterday's small funeral in upstate New York.

The cathedral is talking with the family about incorportating a special memorial tribute to Richardson in Magical Thinking, which Redgrave first staged on Broadway in 2007 and then took to London. The show recounts author Joan Didion's experiences mourning the deaths of her husband and daughter.

UPDATE: Redgrave's performance was rescheduled for Oct. 26.
