Pennington's DUI Charge: L.A. Edition
A crack has emerged in Ty Pennington's foundation.
The Extreme Makeover: Home Edition guru was charged Tuesday with two misdemeanor counts, driving under the influence and willfully operating a vehicle with a blood-alcohol level of 0.08 or higher, stemming from his weekend arrest, the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office confirmed to E! Online.
Arraignment has been set for June 4 at L.A.'s Airport Branch Courthouse. Pennington, 42, is facing a maximum penalty of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.
Cops pulled over Pennington at about 12:15 a.m. Saturday, after which the hunky handyman registered a 0.14 percent blood-alcohol level, nearly twice the state legal limit. He was taken into custody and released at 2:50 a.m. after posting $5,000 bail.
Authorities have declined to release further details about the circumstances that led to Pennington's stop, but the ABC personality quickly admitted to taking a wrong turn and publicly apologized.
"I made an error in judgment. We all make mistakes, however this is about accountability," he said in a statement Monday. "Under no circumstances should anyone consume alcohol while driving. I could have jeopardized the lives of others and I am grateful there was no accident or harm done to anyone. This was my wake-up call."
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition began in November 2003, originally as a series of heartwarming specials before becoming a full-fledged series. The Sunday night staple is currently in its fourth season and has been renewed for a fifth.
