Penn Does Wright Thing; Couple Call Off Split
Turns out, whatever differences Sean and Robin Wright Penn once had weren't so irreconcilable after all.
Court records obtained by E! News show that the couple requested and were granted a dismissal of Wright Penn's divorce petition Tuesday, the same day the Oscar winner took the stage at a San Francisco concert to salute his leading lady. (View the court document.)
Reps for the couple did not immediately return calls seeking comment.
Wright Penn filed her paperwork Dec. 21 in Marin County Superior Court, where the duo holds their primary residence, citing those pesky irreconcilable differences as the reason she was ending an 11-year marriage that produced two teenage children. (View Wright Penn's divorce petition.)
While no further details of the split were offered, there were clues of marital discord. Notably, a divorce petition filed by Penn three weeks earlier, on Dec. 7. (View Penn's divorce petition.) The Into the Wild mastermind withdrew his petition Dec. 18, giving Wright Penn the opportunity to file papers of her own.
Within weeks, Penn appeared to be moving on, spotted on several occasions enjoying the company of model Petra Nemcova.
But then on Tuesday, the estrangement appeared to be history. Extra, which first reported the apparent reconciliation, caught the couple taking in an Eddie Vedder concert in San Francisco.
Vedder, a longtime friend of Penn's who contributed to the soundtracks of Dead Man Walking and Into the Wild, allowed his buddy up on stage, where Penn dedicated a tune to his wife in honor of her 42nd birthday.
The thespian twosome met on the set of the 1990 thriller State of Grace. They tied the knot in 1996.
