Royal babies are in the heir...

While rumors are swirling that Ms. Middleton is already expecting, we had to give you the official palace scoop on the matter.

So, is she or isn't she? And how will the royal announcement be made?

"There have been reports to the contrary worldwide, but the fact is that the Duchess of Cambridge is not pregnant. Does she hope to be soon? I should say so," insisted a royal aide close to the couple.

What a royal bummer! But we can still goss on when, exactly, the couple will expand the royal fam, right? Except there's someone putting the couple's plans on hold (and it's not the queen):

"Prince William will be on active military duty in the Falkland Islands from early in the New Year, and there is no earthly way he would be assigned 8,000 miles from home if the Duchess of Cambridge were expecting," explained a second palace insider.

OK, we guess we're satisfied with that explanation. After all, Kate's still adjusting to the stress of her new life, so it's crucial the couple wait until the time is right, right?

But according to our first palace source, the time is right now:

"Wouldn't it be wonderful, in these days of economic gloom, for an announcement to come shortly? I think it would be a terrific morale booster for the whole country," he teased us. Wow, that's pretty good for one of those normally dry Brit royal types—tantalizing and hinting to us at the same time!

And when the announcement comes, our royal aide insisted it would be very official:

"There aren't going to be any leaks. There will be an announcement when the time comes from Kensington Palace."

He continued, but not without a little quip to the News of the World phone-hacking scandal:

"Trust me, this is not going to be the sort of announcement that will be pre-empted by anyone hacking into royal mobile phone voice messages."

OK we get it. There won't be any royal tweets breaking the news, but we can hope for an announcement in the near future.

'Tis the season for a royal tot!
