No Vegas Grooming for Lance
Lance Bass didn't pull a Britney after all.
After telling E! News that he and a gal-pal pulled off a quick vow swap in Las Vegas "to get free drinks all night" in "like '99, 2000," the singer's reps assured inquiring minds Thursday that Bass did no such thing once a search by the Clark County Clerk's Office turned up no record of a marriage license.
"It was a misunderstanding," Bass' publicist told E! Online, explaining that the story he told about his trip to Sin City was a hypothetical. "He was in Vegas one time, you're humorously joking around, he had heard people say that if you're newly married, you get free drinks," she says. "They said that they were married to get free drinks."
Meaning, his remarks to E! were "all in good fun" and he was as surprised as anybody to find out that his riff on the best way to get comped in Vegas had been taken seriously.
Bass, who has been particularly candid with the media since announcing that he is gay, "would never do anything to mislead his fans," his rep said.
Instead, the 28-year-old bachelor "is totally amused by this."
During his interview, Bass attributed his brief brush with matrimony to "one of those crazy moments where you're with a friend and you're like 'Hey, wouldn't it be fun if we did this?' "
"It's the Vegas thing to do," he said.
But, apparently sometimes what happens in Vegas doesn't even happen in Vegas.
