McConaughey Storms Thunder for Wilson
Matthew McConaughey is taking on the highest-profile uncredited cameo of his life.
The shaggy-haired shirt-averse actor is stepping into the Tropic Thunder bit part that was vacated by Owen Wilson last month.
McConaughey will join the Ben Stiller-directed comedy and its funnyman-powerhouse ensemble cast for just a few days of filming in Hawaii. In addition to director-star Stiller, the Texas heartthrob joins Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr., Bill Hader, Steve Coogan and Nick Nolte in the flick.
While there's no word on the nature of the cameo, Tropic Thunder centers on a group of actors who congregate on a remote island to begin shooting a big-budget war movie, only to be forced into becoming the soldiers they're meant to play.
Wilson was originally intended to fill the role but pulled out last month in the wake of his hospitalization for a reported suicide attempt. Another of the movie's actors, British comedian Coogan, briefly shared headlines with Wilson, when Courtney Love accused him of encouraging Wilson's drug use.
McConaughey will touch down in Hawaii for less than a week to film his scenes sometime this month.
In the meantime, he earned himself another costar Wednesday, this time in the form of Jennifer Garner, who has signed on to star opposite the onetime Sexiest Man Alive in the romantic comedy Ghosts of Girlfriends Past.
That flick centers on a charm-oozing womanizer who, while attending his younger brother's wedding, finds himself haunted by, aptly enough, ghosts of girlfriends past, present and future who try to convince him he's in love with his childhood sweetie.
Shooting on that film is set to begin in January.
Tropic Thunder, meanwhile, is scheduled for release on July 11, 2008.
