It's not going to happen, he says, because he meant it when he criticized the Dancing With the Stars judges Monday night, snapping back at them for being too harsh.
"The last time I apologized was to my grandma when she was dying of cancer," Maks said today on Good Morning America.
What else did he have to say about his attitude on the last show?
"I definitely have nothing to apologize for," Maks told Robin Roberts via satellite from the DWTS studio. "I have nothing to apologize for to Len [Goodman] and certainly not to Carrie Ann [Inaba]. She can make all the faces she wants."
Maks and his partner, Hope Solo, were given rough critiques of their Broadway-themed dance to "Seasons of Love" from "Rent." Maks, with his arm draped protectively around the soccer star, snapped at the judges when they jeered their routine.
"This is your worst dance of the season in my opinion," Goodman told the duo, adding that he knows his stuff because he's been in the business for 50 years.
"Maybe it's time to get out," Maks snapped.
Inaba chided Maks for his retort, saying, "Don't be disrespectful like that."
Today Maks didn't back down about defending Hope, his fellow contestants, the show's producers and everyone involved in making it a hit, but he did point out that one of his comments was misconstrued.
"I love the show," he said. "I love the fans. I love every aspect of it, and that was the whole idea behind what came out wrong with 'my show,'" he said. "When I got on this show six years ago I treated it as a dance competition and everyone here tried really hard to change my mind and say ‘Look Maks, it's a show, there are other elements to it,' so I embraced it, but one thing I'm not going to embrace is pointed fingers and disrespectful remarks."
Maks is particularly fed up with the judges nasty comments about Chaz Bono, calling him a "little pengiun" and an "Ewok."
"Why is it that the judges are allowed to compare us to animals and say stuff they think is funny when it's nothing constructive at all and we can't say that they're wrong?" he asked.
And again, in case it wasn't clear—he's definitely, 100 percent, not backing down.
"I don't regret anything. That's why I think I'm a bit misunderstood in this situation," he said. "Everyone is waiting for me to bow my head, take a knee and say I'm sorry and plea for forgiveness. I have nothing to apologize for."
