Locklear on the Run
Last year, Heather Locklear starred in a soap opera. This year, she'll try comedy.
Locklear has been cast in the ABC comedy pilot, See Jayne Run, the network confirmed Tuesday.
The proposed series concerns an investment banker (Locklear), per the Hollywood Reporter, who is faced with that hilarious predicament: My job or my family.
Comedy does not come easy for ABC, which this season has detonated bomb (Big Day) after bomb (Knights of Prosperity) after bomb (Help Me, Help You) after bomb (In Case of Emergency) of the half-hour variety. The network has had better luck with hourlong hybrids such as Ugly Betty, Men in Trees and the genre standard-bearer, Desperate Housewives.
See Jayne Run is planned as a half-hour series.
Locklear, 45, is late of the untitled real-life domestic drama costarring Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora, from whom she filed for divorce in February 2006, and former neighbor Denise Richards, with whom Sambora began dating shortly after the split from his wife.
As a scripted performer, Locklear starred in the 2006 ABC half-hour comedy pilot, Women of a Certain Age. Like most pilots, it didn't fly.
Locklear has starred in four series for ABC: T.J. Hooker, Dynasty, Spin City and the went-nowhere Going Places. Her TV series resume also includes Melrose Place and LAX, which was grounded after 13 episodes by NBC in 2005.
The fall network schedules are to be unveiled, as is the custom, in May.
