Lindsay Laid Up by Appendicitis

Lindsay Lohan is kicking off 2007 by going under the knife.

The 20-year-old actor has been admitted to a Los Angeles-area hospital where she will undergo surgery for appendicitis later Thursday, E! Online senior editor Marc Malkin exclusively reports.

"She was not feeling well and went to her doctor," said Lohan's rep, Leslie Sloane Zelnik. "She went to the hospital last night, and her appendix is being taken out today."

The routine procedure isn't expected to keep Lohan laid up for too long, with Zelnik estimating a minimal recovery time for the star—ensuring she'll be swapping hospital gowns for red carpet couture in no time.

"She'll be recuperating for a few days, but then she will be totally fine."

In the meantime, filming has temporarily halted on her new film, I Know Who Killed Me.

For Lohan, who returned to Los Angeles earlier this week after ringing in the new year as host of the Delano bash in Miami, her surgery comes on the heels of a major critical accolade.

Earlier Thursday, she nabbed her first Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for her work in Emilio Estevez's star-studded drama Bobby. The film's ensemble is up for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, the guild's Best Picture equivalent.

She should be fully recovered in time for the awards, which will be doled out Jan. 28 in Los Angeles.
