Larry Birkhead's OK Payday?

In the new issue of OK magazine, Larry Birkhead describes what it was like when the DNA tests were read in court, finally revealing that he was Dannielynn's father. "In court, when they were about to open that envelope, it was like the Academy Awards and they say, 'And the winner is,' " Birkhead says. "You just sit there trembling."

Birkhead certainly isn't trembling anymore. And as for being a winner, he may have hit the jackpot.

I'm told the fledgling photographer was paid $1.7 million by OK for the exclusive sit-down and first photos of him and his daughter. "He says he needs the money," a source tells me.

Late last month, Birkhead was hit with a bill for more than $600,000 from his former attorney, Debra Opri. But did the OK deal actually do anything for Birkhead's bank account?

OK's editor-in-chief, Sarah Ivens, who would not say how much was doled out, says the undisclosed payment didn't go to Birkhead. "All deals private and confidential, but all fees went to a trust fund for the baby," Ivens wrote in an email to me this afternoon.

"Have you seen the feature?" she added. "It's worth every dime!"

Birkhead's newly hired lawyer, Hollywood celebrity attorney Marty Singer, did not comment.

Now I want to hear from you: Do you think Birkhead should have sold photos of him and Dannielynn?
