It's Raining Men! Inside the GQ Men of the Year Party

Kelly Slater has been linked to Cameron Diaz, Gisele Bündchen, Pamela Anderson and, most recently, Kirsten Dunst.

But he was holding hands with someone else at last night’s GQ Men of the Year party at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles.

My spies and I spotted the champion surfer stud walking hand in hand through the bash with a petite brunette.

Slater, who arrived at the party straight from some surfing in Santa Barbara, was among an impressive array of boldfaced names at the annual fete, hosted by GQ's editor in chief, Jim Nelson (flanked by Jason Schwartzman and Ryan Gosling left).

Josh Brolin, Milo Ventimiglia, Gossip Girl's Chace Crawford and artist-director Julian Schnabel were among the first to arrive. When Hayden Panettiere walked into the bash, she immediately made a beeline to Brolin’s wife, the always gorgeous Diane Lane. “I must, must meet Diane Lane,” Panettiere was heard telling her mother.

Dave Annable of Brothers & Sisters chatted with Brian Greenberg, a star of television’s October Road. When Greenberg worried aloud how the writers' strike has impacted his show, Annable cracked, “Don’t worry, Prime [Greenberg’s 2005 flick with Uma Thurman and Meryl Streep] is on HBO, like, every day.” (Annable knows his television schedule: HBO is actually airing Prime this coming Sunday and Wednesday!)

Judd Apatow also chatted about the strike. He wondered, “I want to know who at GE is working to keep the writers down? It doesn’t make sense.” Meanwhile, Apatow’s GQ portrait went missing from a wall displaying his and the other nominees’ photos. While there was some chatter that Apatow pulled it down himself, Apatow's rep says someone actually gave it to the funnyman to take home.

Apatow’s Knocked Up stars Paul Rudd and Jonah Hill, along with Ben Foster, Justin Long and Grey's Anatomy's Justin Chambers, were among the last to leave the building (Seth Rogen had been there too, but he departed earlier in the evening). They were still hanging out around 3 a.m., drinking beers a GQ editor was said to have fetched from his room because the hotel was no longer serving.

When the place was still servin’ earlier on, Chambers got comfy by himself, sitting at the piano in the lobby and examining a CD for several minutes that he had taken out of his jacket pocket. He also tickled the ivories, but so softly that only he could hear what he was playing.

Also at the bash were baseball star Alex Rodriguez, Eric DaneMinka Kelly, Eve, Rumer Willis, Emile Hirsch, Pharrell Williams, Casey Affleck (who, by the way, was wearing the most awesome custom-made John Varvatos suit), poweragent Kevin Huvane, hair guru Chris McMillan and director-producer Peter Jacobson.

And I’m happy to report that honoree Kanye West made it to the party. He originally was going to skip it because of the recent death of his mom, but I’m told he changed his mind because he didn’t want to let down editors at the magazine. He did, however, request that his photo not be taken.
