Farrah Fawcett's Red Swimsuit Goes to Washington

Red one-piece the late actress wore in popular 1976 poster, along with other memorabilia, donated by her family to the Smithsonian Institution

The memory of Farrah Fawcett will live forever at the Smithsonian.

During a ceremony Tuesday in Washington D.C., the late actress's longtime love Ryan O'Neal and nephew Greg Walls donated the swimsuit Farrah wore in the classic '70s poster to the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History—along with a 1977-era doll of the star and scripts from Charlie's Angels, among other things.

"Farrah Fawcett has made an enduring impression on American popular culture," museum director Brent D. Glass said in a statement. "We are pleased to welcome this donation."

The items will be displayed in the Smithsonian's pop culture history collection, joining other items such as Dorothy's ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz and Evel Knievel's Harley-Davidson.

Fawcett passed away in June 2009 at 62 after a long battle with cancer.
