Mia Farrow is done fasting.
The Rosemary's Baby star has been ordered by her doctor to end the hunger strike she embarked on 12 days ago to protest the dire conditions for native tribes in the Darfur region of Sudan.
"I have been instructed by my doctor to stop my fast immediately due to health concerns—including possible seizures," Farrow, a longtime human-rights activist, wrote on her website Friday. "I am fortunate. The women, children, and men I am fasting for do not have that option."
Earlier in the day, she had blogged that she felt "awful" and had a blood-sugar count under 40. "I won't be able to continue much longer," she wrote.
Instead, the fast will become a tag-team effort. British billionaire Richard Branson has announced that he will take over the cause for the next three days.
"I'm honored to be taking over the fast for the next three days from Mia Farrow in her courageous stance to support the people of Darfur," he said in a statement. "Over a year and a half ago, I traveled to Darfur and was horrified by the stories that people of all ages shared with us...We cannot stand and watch as 1 million people suffer."
