David Gest Sidelined by Chest Pain
David Gest is apparently unwilling to be upstaged by his ex-wife.
The music producer was rushed to a London hospital Wednesday after complaining of severe chest pains and difficulty breathing, his spokesman said.
The health scare comes one week after his former missus, Liza Minnelli, collapsed onstage during a concert in Sweden.
"David is stable and receiving the best medical attention," the spokesman said. "We are awaiting a further update from doctors."
Gest, 54, and Minnelli, 61, tied the knot in New York in March 2002, in a seemingly made-for-TV ceremony that featured Michael Jackson serving as best man and Elizabeth Taylor as maid of honor.
They separated in July 2003 and filed dueling divorce petitions that fall.
After more than three years of bitter legal back-and-forth, the ex-couple reached an amicable settlement in their split in January.
Apart from his endeavors as a producer, the erstwhile Mr. Minnelli appeared in the U.K. edition of I'm a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! last year, finishing in fourth place.
Following his surprisingly popular stint on the show, he went on to score a spot as a judge on British talent show Grease Is the Word.
He also landed his own reality show, This Is David Gest, which became a hit in the U.K. and went on to air in Canada but, sadly, not in the U.S.
In February, he's due to begin performing in a London musical based on his life, titled David Gest Is Nuts...My Life as a Musical.
Gest also released an autobiography, Simply the Gest, earlier this year.
