DMX Avoids Big House, Ready to Work on New Album

DMX is one lucky dog. The trouble-magnet rapper has managed to escape the slammer for the umpteenth time.
Despite a rap sheet longer than his greatest hits list and a guilty plea to attempted aggravated assault on a corrections officer, the hip-hopster wound up getting put on probation for the next 18 months.
Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Robert Gottsfield credited the 38-year-old X man (real name Earl Simmons) with time served before placing him on supervised probation and ordering him to mandatory counseling.
(DMX received a time-served credit because his latest offense came during a recent jail stint on drugs and animal cruelty charges when he tossed a food tray at one of the facility's staffers.)
He will be allowed to serve his probation in Florida, where he expects to take up residence and head into the studio to record a new album. He was also ordered to pay various fines and court costs.
"One of the things that Maricopa does is allow people to transfer their probation to other places," DMX's attorney, Glenn Allen, told E! News. "It was definitely a good result. Everybody's relieved to have this done with, and it's the appropriate resolution."
