Chatting with Rihanna: She Wants Her MTV
John McCoy/Los Angeles DailyNews/ZUMA Press
Rihanna is on the rebound after a painful break.
In her foot, that is.
The 19-year-old “Umbrella” songbird has been hobbling around on crutches lately—she broke a toe on her right foot earlier this month, when she accidentally walked into a chair on her vacation.
But no worries. Rihanna told me she’s healing quite nicely. “My foot is still here and still working,” she joked with me on Friday, while prepping to shoot the new video for her single “Hate That I Love You” in Los Angeles.
And the injury isn’t getting in the way of performing, even if it needs to be more sitting down than dancing around a stage. “I can’t let it stop me,” she said. “It doesn’t stop me from having fun, so it can’t stop me from working, either.”
Rihanna thinks she'll be able to give a full-fledged performance at the MTV Video Music Awards next month in Las Vegas. “That’s like a month away, so I should be healed,” said the singer, who is nominated for five VMAs.
After helping to announce the nominations last Tuesday, Rihanna immediately called her family. “I started freaking out,” she said. “My brothers are all excited! One of my brothers is a teenager, so he’s all into the MTV and TRL world.”
And that’s not it from Rihanna—I’ll have more for you as we get closer to the VMAs.
