Caroline's Casting Couch: My Dreams Come True

Owen Wilson and Nick Nolte are going to appear onscreen together. I would be jumping for joy—and perhaps on my couch—if said project were just a 15-second Geico commercial or something. These two just dazzle me. I cannot say how many tears I have shed watching Nolte work up Barbra Streisand in The Prince of Tides. And every time I think about Wilson’s preppy Jesus-like character in Meet the Parents I smile.
So, the idea of these two together—um, yeah, you probably want to know what the hell I’m talking about, so let’s get to the facts.
Owen and Nicky-poo will costar in Tropic Thunder, which is about a bunch of actors on location shooting a war movie when, don’t you just know it, life imitates art.
Ben Stiller is directing them. As the founding member of the We Are Not Sick of Ben Stiller No Matter What Anybody Says Fan Club, I’m psyched. (I'm also a founding member of the Steve Carell Is the Almost Played-Out Poor Man's Ben Stiller But I Sorta Like Him Anyway Fan Club, but that's a different matter.)
Still not sold? Check out the seriously talented ensemble: Robert Downey Jr., Steve Coogan and Jay Baruchel. (Jay, by the way, needs his shot at leading man-hood. I think he’s ready now.) They’re gonna shoot this summer in Hawaii and L.A. I’m gonna have to get my stalking radar up and running.
Now I’m not so fangirl that I can’t speak to the little voice in my head that is turning up her nose in disgust. Show behind the show? Actors playing actors? Undoubtedly over-the-top war clichés?
Yeah. The movie probably won’t be the next Private Benjamin. But it sounds like a comedy that might be funny, which is great news, especially when the world is about to get bombarded with Evan Almighty.
